Mark Dantonio was officially inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at the National Football Foundation awards dinner, completing a journey that began with his election in his very first year on the ballot.

First-ballot selection is among the rarest distinctions the sport offers, reserved for coaches and players whose impact is beyond debate. For Dantonio, it was validation of a body of work built season by season at Michigan State.

Earlier in the year his name was added to the Spartan Stadium Ring of Fame during an on-campus salute, tying the national honor back to the place where he earned it.

Dantonio used the moment to credit the program's culture and the people who carried it, the same themes he has returned to throughout his career.

The induction placed him permanently among the coaches who shaped college football, a fitting bookend to a career defined by patience, defense and standards that did not bend.
