Mark Dantonio built Michigan State into a national power and walked away as the winningest football coach in the program's history. Over 13 seasons in East Lansing he compiled a 114-57 record, more victories than any Spartan coach before him, and turned a proud-but-overlooked program into a perennial contender.
His teams won three Big Ten Championships - in 2010, 2013 and 2015 - more than any coach in school history. The 2013 squad delivered a season for the ages, finishing 13-1 with a win over No. 5 Stanford in the 100th Rose Bowl and a No. 3 national ranking. Two years later Dantonio's Spartans beat Iowa for another conference title and earned a place in the College Football Playoff.
A native of Zanesville, Ohio, Dantonio played defensive back at South Carolina before launching a coaching career that ran through Ohio State and Cincinnati. He coached under Jim Tressel and Nick Saban, carrying their lessons in discipline and defense into a head-coaching philosophy built on toughness, accountability and trust.
Since retiring in 2020 he has been honored at the sport's highest levels - the College Football Hall of Fame, the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame and the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame - and named to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. Today he brings that same steady, principled voice to stages and organizations as a speaker on leadership, culture and the long work of building something that lasts.
